Priorities for architectural photography
I have been trying to order my approach to Architectural Photography. Of course a great deal depends upon the brief I am given but there is a common thread and for my own satisfaction I have a default set of intentions. These are represented in below as 11 different guidelines. Some of them refer more to what I am trying to achieve whilst others refer more to how I try to achieve it.
- Set the building in its context
- Impart a sense of place / the feeling that a building evokes
- Emphasise the human dimension
- Understand and articulate the intention of designer or architect
- Investigate detail and textures
- Have an empathy for materials, crafts and traditions
- Show how a building works including interior / exterior relationship
- Produce images with a lyrical dimension
- Create tantalising glimpses of other spaces
- In older buildings, convey time as well as form
- Segment larger environments into discrete areas and create simplicity by paring down the subject
