Heathrow behind the scenes

I have been invited to photograph a number of living wall projects around the country for the Biotecture who create those wonderful walls of plants that make such a positive impact on peoples enjoyment of a place. The first was at Heathrow’s Terminal 3. If you have ever flown long-haul from Gate 25 you may have seen the wall. They call it ‘The Garden Gate’.

We can’t shoot while the gate is in use so this was an overnight shoot. Workers have to go through the same type of security checks as passengers with passport submitted in advance and full X-ray treatment. Physically fitting my technical kit through the scanner presented a bit of a challenge but all was well and the shoot went really well. It was really fascinating to see the warren of passages behind the scenes and all the night workers busy keeping the whole thing running.
