Andrew Geller – Architecture – Freedom of the Holiday House

I wonder if it is your experience that people commissioning a house for pleasure and leisure are prepared to be more playful with the architecture than those intended as a principal residence.

I have been photographing ‘The Dune House’ in Thorpness, Suffolk. This is a building designed by the Norwegian Architects JVA.

I have also been enjoying this You Tube video by Karl Bourke about the well known American Architect Andrew Gellar who seemed to have a lot of fun with beach houses which seemed to allow plenty of freedom in the design.

The seaside has often inspired designers to experiment more freely and I for one would be delighted to see Architects and clients have a good deal more fun with their play houses.
