Constructing Worlds

Anyone with and interest in architectural photography and within striking distance of London will be excited by the major review of architectural photography due to open at The Barbican on 25th September.

The exhibition called ‘Construction Worlds – Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age’ will take a refreshingly broad view of architectural photography encompassing a range of photographers working in related fields of photography but who have help change the way we see the built environment and the world around us. Photographers range from Walker Evans to one of my personal inspirations, Simon Norfolk.

The exhibition will include the work of Architects from Le Corbusier to Daniel Libeskind.

With no commonly accepted definition of what constitutes architectural photography the exhibition will take an open-minded approach including ranging from cool realism to the emotional and arty. What links the 250 images is that they all work to help us better see the world around us. This is something I have found to be true. That architectural photography has a role in aiding the understanding and appreciation of architecture and the designed environment. That well made photographs can add to the experience and unlock, for the viewer, the intention of the designer.
