Architect designed homes from containers – an answer for more than Felixstowe?

Felixstowe in Suffolk is the largest container port in the UK and among the six largest in Europe. As a consequence we locals are all too familiar with those big metal boxes trailing along the A12 and A14 and know well the giant stacks that dominate the port area that in turn dominates the seaside town of Felixstowe.

The article below from Design Milk (follow the link)  shows the humble container in a refreshing new way with strong design values. That is something that I think could have a place in Felixstowe. Perhaps a competition sponsored by the port and the many shipping companies in the area  and who knows, maybe we could find a partial sustainable solution to pressing need for affordable housing using strong design.

If you are a designer or architect who would be interested in pursuing this idea – do get in touch via the contact page. In addition to being architectural photographer, I have spent a lifetime developing cultural projects through my social enterprise Cultural Intelligence and we would be really keen to take this further.

Incidentally, I think this article is also a great example of how photography can communicate architectural and design concepts.
