Priorities for architectural photography

I have been trying to order my approach to Architectural Photography. Of course a great deal depends upon the brief I am given but there is a common thread and for my own satisfaction I have a default set of intentions. These are represented in below as 11 different guidelines. Some of them refer more to what I am trying to achieve whilst others refer more to how I try to achieve it.

  1. Set the building in its context
  2. Impart a sense of place / the feeling that a building evokes
  3. Emphasise the human dimension
  4. Understand and articulate the intention of designer or architect
  5. Investigate detail and textures
  6. Have an empathy for materials, crafts and traditions
  7. Show how a building works including interior / exterior relationship
  8. Produce images with a lyrical dimension
  9. Create tantalising glimpses of other spaces
  10. In older buildings, convey time as well as form
  11. Segment larger environments into discrete areas and create simplicity by paring down the subject
